Garden Route- The CapeNo trip to the Garden Route is complete without a stop near Knysna, a popular resort town beside a huge lagoon, known for its woodcarvings, art galleries and fresh oysters. In the mountains beside the town are the remains of the lush indigenous forests which once covered the area. Here are vast towering trees of unfamiliar species: yellowwoods, stinkwoods and hard pears, many now rare due to the value of their timber. Around the town are lovely beaches, lakes, mountains and rivers. Point Lodge occupies a prime position beside the lagoon, whilst for those seeking a wooded hideaway, the Phantom Forest could be the answer. Further along the Garden Route, The Plettenberg has a stunning location overlooking Plettenberg Bay. As you head east to the wild Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park, Hog Hollow is a super base for exploration, whilst the much simpler Storms River Restcamp has one of the Cape's most spectacular locations. ^ Top of page |
