The string of remote islands in northern Mozambique that is the Quirimbas Archipelago covers a long stretch of Mozambique's coastline; see the scale on the map (bottom-left) to appreciate this.

Look towards the north: the white line marks the Tanzanian border. Now zoom out and you'll realise how much closer these islands are to Tanzania than they are to southern Africa!

Zoom in closer to see the islands in much more detail; some of the island pictures show the most extra-ordinary detail of their sand-banks and surrounding turquoise coral reefs.
