Kings Pool

Tented Suite

Each tented suite at King's Pool Camp is connected to the main area by raised wooden walkways and you enter by way of an ornate wooden door. Inside the rooms are large with a high thatched roof, but we thought our room was a bit dark and gloomy.

However, each suite does have a large deck with a small plunge pool, sunloungers and sala (shaded area with a double mattress and cushions), as well as an outside shower. We spent a lot of our siesta time out here on our last visit.

The flushing toilet is in a separate side-room on one side of the tent and the main bathroom is on the other, leading out onto the deck. The bathroom is tiled and feels a bit like it would fit in a modern hotel rather than a safari camp. There is a curtain that can be drawn for a measure of privacy, but there are still big gaps and so actually doesn't allow for much privacy at all. The amenities in the bathroom are very good, double hand basins, double showers with large “rain-shower” effect showerheads and, when we visited in November 2011, Charlotte Rhys toiletries including soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Dressing gowns and slippers are also provided.

The four-poster style beds are set in the centre of the main bedroom area, with views out over the water. Note that some beds will be made up as twins, but due to the four-poster design they cannot be pulled apart.

Each tent is also furnished with a sofa and coffee table and armchairs, as well as a writing desk, dressing table and large wardrobe. The 'Premier' camps also provide mini bars in each room, which they'll gladly stock with a guests' preferred drinks. There is usually also a tea and coffee making station in each room, although they didn't have these when we were there as the camp was waiting for their tea chests to arrive.

We thought that the 'mini gym' provided in each wardrobe is a great idea – there is plenty of room on the deck or inside for those wishing to use the weights or yoga mat supplied.
