Saile Tented Camp review

This is exactly the type of camp that we like - small, personal. simple rustic bushcamp in a lovely setting. We were very well looked after by Dennis and his team.

The game viewing, whether by vehicle or on foot was excellent, and we probably saw more game here than we have ever done before - huge variety and quantity. The elephant population was vast.

Dennis was our first guide who asked us what our interest were, and based the activities around these and encouraged us to do more walking than we originally thought of doing. Not only did we see mammals but he also showed us a lot of the bird life.

Saile Tented Camp review

Saile Tented Camp had simple facilities but they were perfectly comfortable.

The food and service were superb. Mighty is a great cook and Jane is a great waitress.

Dennis was our guide. he was very helpful and able. We were the only guests for two days and the other guests were like-minded on the third day. That meant that Dennis was able to take us for walks in the bush. This was a great way to see more small animals, plants and birds as well as getting close to drinking elephants. The Linyanti swamp is impressively rich in wildlife. Our night drive was great fun and Dennis was excellent at spotting inconcspicuous nightjars.

Highlights were seeing lions with a freshly killed young elephant and seeing so many animals and birds close-up in camp. Elephants walked through the camp to bathe every night and we had fantastic views of many birds, monkeys, baboons and dwarf mongooses right outside our tent.

Our only disappointment was the boat trip in the swamp. We saw very few swamp animals- probably because we did not penetrate far enought into the big water channels. Most of what we saw was gome on the river banks which we saw better from the land.

Great setting for this small camp.

A small tented camp with bucket showers and a flush loo set on the river bank with abundant wild life a lot of which shares the camp with baboons around during the day and two lions walking through the camp at night and roaring outside the tent at 0300 two nights in a row. Amazing what some people will sleep through..

Arrival by small aircraft to a small bumpy airstrip was an exciting start.

The area for game drives was very dry and with many elephants the trees were being devastated.

We did one evening boat trip which seemed to be a token event as we saw little and could well have been missed out. It was felt that the main camp, which was 40 minutes away, had prior claim on the use of the boats.

Staff were excellent. Dennis the guide, Jane who served at table and provided drinks and cold towells with three other staff who togethre made up a greeting and farewell choir.

On departure there was a mechanical problem with the aircraft and we were delayed two hours as it had to return to Kasane to be fixed and the time for departure was changed three times. This meant we sat at the airstrip for about an hour.

Saile Tented Camp review

We liked the staff and food was good. The tents were basic and a little investment in water facilities could improve the ability to have showers. Especially needed is a filter to prevent toilets blocking up.

Dennis our guide was excellent but the terrain hampers driving and with no spotter even at night the guide has his hands full. High spots were wild dogs and a huge herd of zebra. Bird life was good and elephants plentiful. The boat ride on the water was a disappointment and possibly oversold in the write up.

A simple camp run well by Dennis

The camp was not as expensive as our other camps. But we felt that Dennis should have had more facilities. An example is that when there were 8 clients we were all in one vehicle with no tracker.

Overall we had a good time there. The description of the camp led us to expect more water activities.

The tents reflected the simple nature of the camp. The mattresses could have been better.
