The Deluxe rooms at the Africa House are right at the very top of the hotel, on the fourth level. To reach these them you need to climb a steep narrow set of wooden stairs – they aren't for the fait of heart as it is quite a hike! Though this does mean that once you are in your rooms, you do have a wonderful view across Stone Town.

The rooms are nicely decorated with dark Zanzibari furniture and brightly coloured soft furnishings. The beds are covered with silk throws and cushions, whilst a mosquito net hangs from the canopy above.

Each of the rooms has air-conditioning and a minibar which is stocked on request. There are also phones in all of the rooms which have an outside line for making local or international calls. Any calls that you make will be automatically billed to your room.

The rooms are beautifully furnished, though they are small and the amount of heavy furniture does make them feel quite claustrophobic. The thick curtains, deep sumptuous fabrics and dark wood make the rooms feel even smaller than they already are.

The en-suite bathrooms in the Deluxe Rooms are quite well sized, with a hot-and-cold bath/shower, a flush toilet and sink. The bathrooms are attractively tiled with a white marble effect. Though the sink is set into a deep red tiled surface, behind which hangs a huge carved mirror with a gold painted frame.
