Baraza Resort & Spa

 - Michamvi Peninsula, Zanzibar

This new resort, (owned by the same family that runs the adjacent Breezes Beach Club and Palms) is a blend of Swahili, Arabic and Indian styles. The architecture is classic Swahili and the décor comprises the best of locally-crafted lanterns, beds and furniture.

It is due to open on 15 December 2008, but some of our team visited it in September, when it was in the final stages of completion. The villas are in 4 rows, with the ocean-front villas being the most expensive. There are 2-bedroom villas facing the tropical fruit garden and close to the crèche and Children's Club, so should be convenient for families.

The villas are fitted to a high standard, with free-standing baths in the bathrooms, and large TVs in the bedrooms plus outdoor plunge pools.

The grounds are spacious with flower and fruit gardens and even a short golf range is available.
