Bullsport Guest Farm

 - Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia
Read 26 traveller reviews of Bullsport Guest Farm

Bullsport Guest Farm (also known as BuellsPort) stands approximately 250km southwest of Windhoek, and about 50km south of Solitaire, in its own section of the majestic Naukluft Mountains. It is a hiking and horse-riding heaven! Bullsport is one of Namibia's oldest farms and is owner-run, consequently offering a very warm welcome and great hospitality.

After recent expansions and upgrades, Bullsport Guest Farm now has 14 rooms, as well as 2 camping sites:

• There are 8 Standard rooms at Bullsport (the farm's original rooms), split into six twin rooms, one triple room and one family room with four beds; additional beds are available on request. All Standard rooms are en-suite – two with a bath, six with a shower – and all have mobile gas heaters and fans, but no air-conditioning.

• In addition, Bullsport recently completed 6 Luxury rooms. They're larger and come with en-suite bathrooms, separate toilets, and screens on doors and windows.

• Bullsport's camping facilities are divided into one exclusive camping site for the use of only one group, and one shared camping site, accommodating more than one group at a time. Both are set about 3km from the main farm, tugged away in the Naukluft Mountains, and ideal for nature enthusiasts. They come with two flush toilets, two showers (with 'donkey-boiler' heated water, meaning through a boiler fired with wood), two sinks and a shaded lapa area, although there's no electricity.

The central facilities at Bullsport Guest Farm include a sparkling swimming pool, set in palm-dotted gardens, as well as a big veranda, where hearty Namibian dinners are served when the weather's good. Beside this, there's a spacious restaurant, a self-serve bar and a library, plus a secure parking area for self-drivers.

Whilst staying at Bullsport Guest Farm, activities focus on two things: hiking and horse riding. There are stunning hiking opportunities on the farm and in the surrounding Naukluft Mountains, e.g. the Quiver Tree Gorge Trail. All trails are well marked and easy to follow, and the flora & fauna you'll discover is rich and beautiful, which makes walking here a real pleasure!

The horse-riding at Bullsport Guest Farm is also excellent. Bullsport is a working farm, breeding Namibian horses, and one of the few registered studs in the country. Riding lessons for beginners are available, and there's a number of short horse riding trails around the farm, lasting between one and three hours. For more experienced riders, Bullsport's manager Johanna runs guided horse-riding trips into the mountains and through neighbouring farms, which take between one and three days.

Other activities include bird watching and game viewing, guided tours to Sesriem and Sossusvlei, and guided 4x4 excursions up the Naukluft Plateau, including some scenic hiking.

Please note that some of the money paid for accommodation is going back to a community trust that has been set up to provide members of a local community with guide training programmes. Until now, eight members of the community have been trained as 'level 1' tour guides.

In conclusion… Bullsport Guest Farm is a great place to stay near the Naukluft Mountains. It's a friendly, warm and affordable accommodation, and the options to explore the surrounding area are fantastic!
