- Lake Kariba and Matusadona National Park, Zimbabwe
Situated on top of a hill with views of the Zambezi Escarpment, Bumi Hills Safari Lodge overlooks the vast expanse of Lake Kariba. (This hotel has been here, in one form or another, for many years – it was formerly known as the Bumi Hills Hotel.)
Bumi Hills consists of 20 rooms, including 10 standard and 10 premium rooms, each with lovely views over Lake Kariba. All the rooms at the safari lodge have a bath or shower, a fan and air-conditioning, a mini-bar, mosquito nets, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. Each room at Bumi also has a balcony from where you can look out over the lake, and those in the premium rooms can view game on the lake shore from the comfort of their own room.
The premium rooms are spacious with larger bedrooms and bathrooms, which include large showers, toilets and baths. The en-suite bathrooms come equipped with various toiletries, including a shaving kit, insect repellant, sun protection cream as well as soaps, shampoo and conditioner. Standard rooms are smaller with a more limited lake view, smaller veranda and less privacy, but have the same facilities.
The communal area of Bumi Hills overlooks Lake Kariba and is decorated in a simple but striking style with natural colours such as black, tans and creams with black and white wildlife photos on the walls. The area consists of a guest lounge with internet access, an infinity pool, a snooker room, a terrace bar and a TV room. You can dine either in the dining room or in a partly-covered outdoors area overlooking the lake. To relax at the end of the day, the safari lodge offers a spa with a steam room, jacuzzi, massage tents, a cold plunge pool and a relaxation area.
Activities offered from Bumi Hills Safari Lodge include game drives, guided walks with professional guides and game-viewing boat trips. It is possible to take an evening cruise on the lake to view the spectacular sunsets over the water. Guests can also use the hides to get closer to the wildlife. Fishing with a professional guide is offered, as well as bird watching, cultural village tours and a tour of a crocodile farm. It is also possible to take a scenic flight over the Kariba Dam or over Matusadona National Park.
