Away from Chongwe River Camp and from the main buzz of the Lower Zambezi, the tiny, new Bushbuck camp (which is really more of a fly-camp) opened in August 2006.
Expert Africa's team haven't seen it yet, but we understand that it takes up to 6 people at a time, staying in tents with en-suite facilities, including bucket showers, and uses romantic paraffin 'tilly' lamps for light.
Bushbuck camp is tucked away in the foot hills of the Zambezi Escarpment, away from and above the level of the river. Visitors can expect to spend time hiking around waterfalls, caves and pools – and generally exploring this area on foot. The views from the escarpment down over the great Zambezi Valley are said to be superb.
Chongwe River Camp is also linked with Robin Pope Safaris and African Walking Expeditions – and the Expert Adrica team expect to be visiting it in June 2007 … so watch this space for a much more detailed report …
Birdwatching: Bushbuck camp offers a real contrast in birdlife to the river-side floodplain of the Lower Zambezi. A lot less water birds, but many more more miombo bird-parties.

Walking: Bushbuck is really a fly-camp, designed simply for people who love the wilderness and the walking, and don't particularly need the comforts of a plush safari camp – it's ideal for a few days of pure walking in the Lower Zambezi.

Wildlife: Although in the heart of a very little-visited area of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Bushbuck Camp isn't really about seeing big game – it's more about walking in a wilderness area, and looking for the more esoteric animals likely to be in the hills: from roan antelope to perhaps even klipspringers
