The Canyon Hotel is located on the edge of the small town of Keetmanshoop on the B1 in the south of Namibia, used as a stop en route to or from Fish River Canyon.
Approaching from the front the Canyon Hotel is reminiscent of a roadside motel, but this changes once you step inside, where staff are helpful and it is light and tidy, with fresh flowers and potted plants dotted around. There are 70 rooms here, all painted green and roughly the same with twin beds, a table, chairs, tea and coffee facilities, air conditioning, telephones and TVs. All rooms are en suite, some with a bath and some with a shower. The style here is similar to the larger hotel chains – the rooms are clean and comfortable with good facilities, but there's no individual character.
Outside, in the main area, there's a large pool, a restaurant, coffee shop, gym and internet café. The whole hotel feels a little dated, with fading brightly patterned fabrics and old-fashioned furniture. There are also conference facilities, showing the hotel's popularity for business trips. However, the Canyon Hotel is clean and comfortable, and for just a night's stop in Keetmanshoop, this is perfectly adequate.
In conclusion…Although mostly used for business travelers, the Canyon Hotel offers a comfortable bed for the night, and a place to relax and break the long journey to or from Fish River Canyon.
