Chelinda Lodge

 - Nyika Plateau, Malawi

For many years we've worked closely with David and Robyn Foot, who run the comfortable ,Chelinda Lodge.Standing on the edge of pine forest, with panoramic views over the plateau, the lodge is built entirely out of timber and stone collected from the plateau. It has a cosy central lounge/bar, a curio shop and a dining room with a large outdoor deck for warmer days. Connected to the central area by wooden walkways, each of the eight double-storey log cabins has an open plan lounge and bedroom, with double bed, a private veranda and en-suite facilities - including a separate bath and shower.

Not far from the lodge, Chelinda's very well run stables have more than 26 horses and cater for riders of all ages and abilities. Rides can be as short as two hours, or as long as seven days, and riders are usually assured of a fantastic equine experience. Short day and afternoon rides are easiest to decide on when there, but it is wise to arrange more adventurous, multiple-day mobile riding (or walking) safaris before you depart. Note that riding trips, and fly-fishing licenses, are not included in our prices.

Being at such a high altitude, Nyika is malaria-free, but this does also mean that the air temperature can be cold so it's best to bring warm clothing with you all year round. Fortunately, the lodge has numerous log fires and you will often return to one roaring in your room in the evening.
