Cornerstone Guest House is a small, friendly, owner-run bed and breakfast, situated in a residential area of Swakopmund's old town centre. It's within easy walking distance of the centre of Swakopmund with plenty of restaurants to explore. In the opposite direction, the sea is only a short walk away.
There are five comfortable bedrooms at Cornerstone Guest House, each with a private entrance. One bedroom has a double bed and four bedrooms have twin beds, two of which can be turned into a family unit with interconnecting doors. Each room has a flat-screen satellite TV, fridge, safe, wireless internet access and complimentary tea/coffee making facilities. When I stayed in November 2008, my comfortable room was decorated with muted whites and blues in a nautical theme and remained cool, even in the heat of the day.
Each room has a large en-suite bathroom with modern fittings, a solar-powered shower (nice and powerful!) loo and basin. If you wish, hairdryers, ironing boards and iron are available on request.
Outside each room is a patio, with table and chairs for relaxing during the day. The gardens are well looked after by the owners, who can often be seen pottering around tending to them. They form a very neat, orderly, colour-coordinated area with clipped lawns and smart borders of plants.
Cornerstone's central facilities are made up mainly of a large, bright breakfast room, where breakfast is served each morning at the time of your choice. On warmer days, you can ask for breakfast outside on your veranda.
There's also a small lounge area with satellite TV, and for self-drivers, secure off-street parking is available. The guest house has plenty of literature and brochures on activities in and around Swakopmund and the owners, who live on site, are always happy to offer their advice.
In conclusion… Cornerstone Guest House is a good value little bed and breakfast, with a modern style and a nautical feel. It offers good accommodation and service, and its location is perfect for a stopover in Swakopmund.
