Crocodile Camp

 - Maun, Botswana
Read 2 traveller reviews of Crocodile Camp

About 15 minutes drive west of Maun airport, Crocodile Camp is a relaxed lodge and campsite which occupies a lovely position by the Thamalakane River.

Basic standard chalets, and more luxurious deluxe chalets are spread out in pleasant lawned gardens, with its shady trees, aloes and pretty pink bougainvillea bushes. Crocodile Camp's campsite is set away from the main accommodation nearer to the road.

In the main area there is a very pleasant decked bar which overlooks the river. Beside this is a separate thatched area with a pool table and there is also a small pool next to the bar for the use of residents.

The gardens are lovely and also have views over the river - there are tables and chairs set under shady old trees, and also sun-loungers dotted about for relaxing in the hot afternoons.

Simple tasty food is served from the bar, and breakfast and a more formal dinner can be taken in the restaurant if requested in advance.

Crocodile Camp will transfer you to and from Maun Airport, and the lodge makes a relaxing spot to stop if you need to spend a night in Maun, or if you would like to have a night somewhere in order to recover from the international flight. Crocodile Camp also makes a good base if you would like a night in permanent accommodation either at the start or end of one of our mobile safaris to Botswana.

Food quality: Breakfast is served buffet-style in the main restaurant area. You can expect a selection of cereals, juice, toast and a variety of spreads, yoghurt and fruit, and a full cooked breakfast is also included.

Lunch and dinner are available from the bar, and the food is very reasonably priced. The menu includes various salads, light bites such as nacho's and pita wraps, steak and chips, fish and chips, burgers and spare-ribs. We ate lunch here, and the food was good - nothing fancy but comparable to good standard pub fare.

Although we did not eat in the main restaurant on our most recent visit, a more formal 3 course dinner is available from here in the evenings but needs to be booked in advance.
