Due to open in July 2008, the four-star David Livingstone Safari Lodge has been built on a sweeping bend of the Zambezi River. It has 77 well-appointed rooms and 5 loft suites, all with views to the river. It is a colonial styled structure, built using stone, wood and earth, giving a natural feel. The fittings are made from gold, bronze and copper, giving a colonial feel, and the furnishings reflect rich east African colours. The lodge has a state of the art conference centre, tropical swimming pool, restaurant and bar and is in close proximity to Victoria Falls and overlooking “Siloka” island, in the centre of the river.
The Expert Africa team have not yet visited this lodge, although a member of staff when on holiday in Zambia in March 2008, was able to go and see the site of the lodge.
The lodge will also have a spa, offering various treatments such as massages, manicures and pedicures.
We are told that the hotel will have their own triple-decked 144-seater river cruiser – the Lady Livingstone, which offers sunset cruises along the Zambezi. Livingstone itself offers a variety of activities, including game drives, helicopter flights over Victoria Falls, Zambezi River cruises, white water rafting, and elephant encounters. A tour of the falls is not to be missed, and the David Livingstone museum in the town centre is fascinating.
The David Livingstone Safari Lodge is usually arranged on a bed-and-breakfast basis.

So near and yet so far
Although we liked the decor, style and layout of the room and found the main entrance hall attractive, to have stayed here any longer would have frustrated us immensely.

Slick and arrogant
Very high class, but too commercial for us – the ethos was very much on profit (everything charged for, and very expensive) and the other guests were very arrogant.
