On the outskirts of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Deception Valley Lodge is a beautifully constructed family-run retreat with eight stylish, thatched bungalows.

Each is large and very comfortable, with sofas, fans, an en-suite bath, an outside shower, a minibar/ fridge, and heavy teak furniture. They have a real air of quality – and this is an excellent lodge to visit at any time of year.

The dedicated team at Deception Valley Lodge includes bushmen guides (from the !Naro group) who will share their knowledge with you over the course of a walk: an informative and fascinating afternoon. The lodge also organises day and night 4WD game drives and bush walks; often placing equal emphasis on the area's remarkable flora and its larger fauna.

If visiting in the first four months of the year, then it may be possible to organize whole-day trips to some of the pans in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. There's an extra cost for these trips, and they are very long days, but they're well worth it.
