Desert Camp is an economic self-catering option situated about 5km from Sossusvlei Lodge and the Sesriem entrance gate to Sossusvlei. With spacious en-suite units, it's likely to be ideal for independent travellers and makes a good base from where to explore the Namib Desert, one of Namibia's major attractions.
Desert Camp's main area is a cluster of tent shaped buildings set amongst a manicured lawn. There is a reception where guests check in and can purchase ice and fire wood. Nearby stands a partly open bar with the frame and stools constructed from natural tree logs. There is a large screen TV in the bar which may show major sports events. Next to the bar, the swimming pool, complete with ornamental fountain, is surrounded by paving and overlooks the desert landscape. To one side stands the communal 'boma' – a traditional southern African open fire pit around which groups travelling together can sit around to enjoy a meal. The boma also has meal preparation, dining and washing-up facilities.
Desert Camp has 20 self-catering units, all built from stone and canvas. Although simple, the room layout is well thought out and seems to be comfortably furnished. Each unit, which can sleep a family of four, has twin beds, a sleeper couch for children, hanging space and an en suite bathroom. Flanking the room is a small shaded verandah with kitchenette and wooden picnic table. This has a washing-up area, 2-plate hob and under-counter fridge. Utensils, cutlery, firewood and firelighters are available at the camp's reception for travellers who'd like to cook for themselves. Visitors not prepared to self cater can buy meal packs at reception or book to enjoy dinner at the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge. Each unit at Desert Camp also has a barbeque and allocated parking area.
In conclusion… Desert Camp is a comfortable, affordable option for couples, groups or families who may want to self-cater and be located close to Sesriem and Sossusvlei.

Desert Camp
Desert Camp is in a great location. When we stayed there it was windy at night and it was very loud in the tent.
I'd say if you are a light sleeper you might want to consider a different place...
