Nestled in dense bush, beside a small beach on the island's western shore, Kayak Africa's Domwe Island has five large tents and offers a waterside, safari-style experience. It can be reached either by kayak (two or three hours' paddle to Mumbo), or a slow 45 minutes by motorboat from the base camp at Cape Maclear. Each room has its own shady deck and hammock; a tranquil spot for relaxing and watching shy forest birds. There are the same activities here as those possible on it's sister-island, Mumbo Island , although Domwe Islands's marked trails are much longer.
This island was previously linked to the mainland by the narrow Ilala Gap, consequently (and in contrast to Mumbo) mammals are abundant here. Follow tracks around the island and you may spot samango monkeys, civet cats and klipspringers. And keep a look out for the large water monitors! The diving is excellent here, but equally enjoyable is the chance to paddle yourself around the island.
