The newest hotel in the Volcanoes National Park will be the Gorilla Mountain View Lodge. Not yet complete, this lodge is under construction at the moment, with the planned opening being estimated to be in November 2008. The promoters of the lodge are the former owners of the Mountain Gorilla's Nest.
It is planned that the Gorilla Mountain View Lodge will be a mid range lodge, more upmarket the 'old' Mountain Gorilla's Nest but not as smart as the proposed 'new' Mountain Gorillas Nest.
It is proposed that the Gorilla Mountain View Lodge will have 30 individual cottages of a good standard and as the name suggests, we understand that the lodge offers beautiful views of the volcanoes.
It is located very close (about 15 minutes) from the main headquarters of Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, so it will be a very handy base from which to explore the area and organise treks to see the Golden monkeys and, of course, the enigmatic Mountain gorillas, both of whom make the Virunga mountains their home.
We are looking forward to hearing more about the progress here and getting some photos once the construction has finished.

Lodge overview
Lodge type: Safari
No. of bedrooms: 30 cottages
Season: Open Year Round
Ideal length of stay: Four nights/three full days is a good amount of time to spend in this area. However it will very much depend on how many times you would like to visit the mountain gorillas. Usually the first full day is spent with a morning tracking to the Golden monkeys to help with acclimatisation, then on each of the next two days you will spend the morning gorilla tracking.
Gorilla Mountain View Lodge
Gorilla Mountain View Lodge was comfortable, clean with great surroundings for birding. Victor the kitchen manager was a great birding resource and was a great bird guide our last morning there.

Great base for gorilla tracking
Lovely rooms in a great setting looking out onto the volcanoes. Great showers and lovely log fires which were lit and checked by the very attentive staff in the evenings. Very welcome after trekking! ...
