The Grande View Lodge is situated on the western rim of the Fish River Canyon overlooking the magnificent cliffs. The lodge forms part of the privately owned Canyon Nature Park, a vast area of 600km² which borders onto 120km of the Fish River Canyon. As well as the canyon and stunning scenery, the park is home to wildlife species including kudu, gemsbok, springbok, ostrich, klipspringer, steenbok and countless birds.

Each of the lodge's 6 en-suite chalets have been built with natural rock walls and thatched roofs. All of the furniture is made by local craftsmen to give this lodge a rustic and authentic feel. The dining area has a large veranda set on the rim of the canyon. Sundowners can be enjoyed here while watching the sun set over the opposite cliffs.

The lodge offers a 2 hour walking trail along the rim of the canyon. The surrounding area has quiver trees in abundance and impressive rock formations along the dolomite cliffs. Nature drives and walks with guides are also available.

For keener walkers it is possible to take guided, fully serviced and catered hikes lasting between 1 and 5 days. These take place in the 120km stretch of the Fish River Canyon belonging to the Canyon Nature Park.

An ideal excursion for visitors who want to enjoy the scenery but would prefer not to hike there is a day's 4WD picnic day trip available. Leaving after breakfast you drive down the canyon to a private rock pool in the Fish River. An overhanging cliff provides shade through the day which helps make the 30m deep pool and excellent spot for swimming and relaxing. A lunch basket and bar is provided during the trip which lasts about 7 hours.
