About five hours' drive north of Pemba is the very different Guludo Beach Camp. Note that this used to be called Guludo Base Camp. Beside a long golden beach, and within walking distance of the nearby village, Guludo's approach emphasises local community development. It's a simple camp, with eight mosquito-net tents open to the wind. Each shelters under a large thatched roof and has a private open-air shower, but shares a clever, composting sit-down toilet.
Activities include involvement with community projects as well as diving, snorkelling and other activities; always with a highly responsible attitude to tourism and its local community.
