For the town's best traditional hotel, with a mature, reserved atmosphere, choose the Hansa Hotel. This old hotel has a central location and a superior restaurant, and is run in the best German style.
Walking through the door, you enter a large marble reception area, which leads through to a small terrace which is used for light lunches. On one side of the reception area is an intimate residents' lounge with a small library and a bar with a fireplace (used in Winter). On the other side is the dining room. On the far side of the terrace is the lush tropical garden.
The light, fresh rooms are a good size with solid furnishings and feel old but well maintained and clean. They are heated in winter and have phones, safes, TVs CNN, Mnet and local stations. There's also a hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities in each room. Some, but not all, room have air conditioning, but this is not really necessary in Swakopmund as, being by the sea, it is cooler here than the rest of Namibia. Rooms without air conditioning have fans. The garden rooms at the back have small fridges and some have balconies overlooking the garden. All rooms have an en-suite bath or shower room.
The restaurant at the Hansa Hotel, which seats 130, serves hot and cold breakfast, light lunches and dinner, which usually consists of a local take on international cuisine. The uniformed staff offers a friendly and efficient service.
