Huab Lodge

 - Central Highlands, Namibia
Read 2 traveller reviews of Huab Lodge

Further east, on the edge of Damaraland, Huab Lodge is a beautiful, very hospitable lodge with eight large, comfortable bungalows. Run by its owners, Jan and Suzi van de Reep, Huab features good food, wine and company.

All activities are included, and the guiding is first class (Jan is one of Namibia's most experienced guides). The area's game includes elephants, zebra, giraffe, a variety of antelope and even the odd cheetah, while back at the lodge there is a relaxing natural thermal spring and a resident masseuse.

There are numerous guest farms and small lodges in central Namibia, many of which we know from personal experience. We tend to concentrate on those where English is spoken, and put the emphasis on those that we find best. Please call us to discuss your options, and don't hesitate to ask about any that are not included above.

Special interests
Birdwatching: Huab’s great attraction for bird-watchers is the excellent guiding provided by the experienced Jan – who is one of Namibia’s best wildlife/birding guides. It’s also a good place to spot Hartlaub’s francolin, which is one of Namibia’s near-endemic species. (They are restricted to northeast Namibia and a small area of Angola!)

Wildlife: Huab has more wildlife than is typical of a Namibian guest farm – including the occasional herd of desert-adapted elephants, giraffe, and an excellent variety of smaller animals. Plus a superb guide (in Jan) who loves the area and can help you to see the very best of the wildlife.

Wellbeing: Huab has lots of home-grown food, a natural hermal spring beside the River Huab, and a resident therapist who offers a variety of treatments and massages from reiki to shiatsu massages! What’s more – these are offered in a low-key way so they don’t detract from the essential bush nature of the lodge.
