Formerly run by Busanga Trails, the Kafwala Rapids Camp stands on a lovely site next to a series of fast-flowing rocky rapids, home to a family of otters. It's an intimate camp that used to take just six visitors, staying in cool, simple rondavels with en-suite facilities.
There was also a dining room/bar area, overlooking the rapids, though you'll often lunch under a shady tree on the riverbed. It's a good spot to relax at the end of a visit to northern Kafue.
Now this site is owned by Wilderness safaris, who run most of the camps on the north side of the park, including the nearest camp, Lufupa Lodge, the more distant Lunga River Lodge, and their sister-camps on the remarkable Busanga Plains: Kapinga, Musanza, Busanga Bushcamp and Shumba Camp.
At present the lodge is not being used … but it's likely that in a few years it will again re resurrected. It's in a lovely spot beside the Kafue River, with some interesting antelope species in the area.
