Tented chaletKanana, Okavango Delta Safari Reserves, Botswana Reached by pathways made from elephant dung, ehe tented chalets at Kanana Camp are structured tents on raised wooden decks – they have a solid frame made of thick wooden beams, around which the thick canvas of the tent is stretched. Each tented chalet has its own shaded veranda at the front, where two comfortable wooden chairs face onto the waterway and floodplains in front of camp. The front of the chalet is fully meshed with a zip in the centre for access. The tent has lots of windows, which are wide and mesh-covered to let in a cooling breeze. Inside the chalet are two beds with canvas headboards and two bedside tables. Around these are walk-in mosquito nets. The light fittings in the room are a polished brass colour, lending a fairly traditional look. The beds are comfortable and wide, with soft cotton bedding and colourful throws. On the bedside table we found a “welcome pack” with information about the camp and area, bottled water and a tin of home-made biscuits. At the back of the bedroom is a large open canvas wardrobe with a digital safe inside, and a luggage rack for bags. The tall, brass floor-standing fan keeps the place cool (although, to be picky, mine was a little 'buzzy' on higher settings). In each chalet at Kanana, the en suite bathroom is reached through a canvas doorway, and has three slightly separate sections. In one corner is shower cubicle with a large shower rose, a wooden splashboard and brass taps. There's a flushing toilet in the other corner, and a washstand with a mirror and brass fittings. A laundry basket is provided– for the complementary laundry service – and on our last visit the towels here were particularly white and fluffy! There is a also a good selection of complementary toiletries provided, plus washing powder for washing undergarments. (The staff at Kanana Camp will not launder underwear – men's or women's – for cultural reasons, so you must wash these for yourself.) Mosquito repellent, room spray and an alarm horn are found in a leather box, along with other accoutrements. Click here to return to the main page on Kanana ^ Top of page |
