Double RoomKaya Mawa, Likoma Island, Malawi The chalets at Kaya Mawa are individually designed, each incorporating the surrounding rocks into the design of the rooms. Central to each room is an enormous double bed with soft cotton bedding, raised high off the ground and draped in a wide mosquito net. Each room has plenty of windows, and the lodge is secure enough for these to be constantly open, allowing a cool breeze through the room even on the hottest of days. (There's also a small, table-top fan – with a crocodile clip for clipping onto the furniture – to augment the natural air-flow.) There is an outside seating area with a “rock sofa” and comfortable cushions, and a small jetty with steps down into the water. In each room there are two sets of snorkeling gear for guests to use around the island – and the water is clear and warm and teeming with fish! Each room is equipped with a walkie-talkie radio for calling either the bar or the reception – and drinks and snacks will happily be delivered to the rooms. Most of the bathrooms at Kaya Mawa are open-air; two are not. All have a shower with hot water, a bath (this is generally cut into the rock!) and a separate flushing toilet. A selection of toiletries is provided. Even the open-air bathrooms are very private and not overlooked. (If you wish to request either an open-air or an inside bathroom, then please tell us and include it in the 'requests' section of the booking form.)
