The bright yellow Lagoon Loge (whose French owners Helen and Wilfred use the French spelling of 'lodge') is located just next to the Walvis Bay Lagoon, which is frequented by various species of birds. Although most base themselves in Swakopmund, Lagoon Loge offers a homely welcome for those who wish to stay in Walvis Bay. Run by French couple Helen and Wilfred Meiller, the guesthouse uses the French spelling of 'lodge' causing locals much confusion!
Lagoon Lodge's eight rooms are all individually decorated with different themes. Thought and imagination has gone into the room design, with various paintings and murals on the walls. Highlights include the colourful seaside room, complete with a beach hut used as a cupboard, and the bird room, with paintings of birds covering the walls. All the rooms have private balconies with views over the lagoon, as well as en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee facilities, TVs and telephones. One room can be used for families.
The main area of the lodge is a bright and airy lounge, breakfast room and reception area all rolled into one. Tables are dotted about, and amongst them are various examples of carved furniture and wall paintings. Some of the furniture has been made by Wilfred, a keen wood-turner. The large glass windows allow guests to look out over the lagoon while at breakfast. Out the back of the lodge is a pretty garden, filled with flowers and a small pool. WiFi is available in reception.
Activities in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay can be booked here, and Helen and Wilfred can also book you a table at the highly recommended Lyon des Sables restaurant, run by their son Virgile.
In conclusion… With quirkily designed rooms and a welcoming and homelike feel, Lagoon Lodge is a good base for exploring Walvis Bay and bird lovers will enjoy bird watching over the lagoon.

pleasant place for final night. Lovely view over lagoon but spoilt by heavy traffic noise from salt lorries and and other traffic. Also intermittent smell from nearby sewage works.
