Tree houseLake Manyara Tree Lodge, Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania Approaching the tree houses from the outside, along a wood chip pathway – they appear to fit in harmoniously with the surrounding bush. Each is a freestanding cottage, raised several feet off the ground on a large wooden platform. They appear to be comprised entirely out of natural materials – the rail for the stairs is simply built out of long knotted tree branches. The walls are made from folded banana leaves and the roof is thatched. However once inside – it becomes apparent that these rooms are incredibly luxurious and stylish. They are also very spacious, with a lounge area as you first enter followed by the bedroom area. Furthermore, each room has a vast outside deck and en-suite bathroom. The tree houses are decorated in muted natural colours, though definantly have the touch of an interior designer. Rustic materials combine with minimalist furniture to stylish effect. For example, the wooden floor boards are varnished, but have been distressed to have an almost 'warehouse' feel. Then the coffee table is a contemporary design with white wash staining. The mix is fantastic. The rooms are also dotted with thoughtful touches – on the coffee table as a number of small, soapstone boxes, filled with dried fruit snacks. In the closet are wellington boots, in case there is a bit of rain. The beds are vast, with crisp white sheets and a warm comforter. For the odd colder night there is an additional blanket over the foot of the bed. The rooms also have phones for calling the office, as well as power points for charging batteries and a fan above the bed and sofa. The en-suite bathroom is a continuation of the main room in style and design. Here you will also find rustic wooden floor boards, wood paneled walls and a contemporary style. The bathroom is bright and quite spacious – with French windows leading out onto the verandah. Each has his-and-hers white porcelain sinks set atop a dark wooden surface, and a flush toilet behind a door to one side. However the most noticeable feature is the large free-standing bath in the centre of the room. Perched on two vast blocks of wood, this is a great place to indulge in a relaxing soak, whilst looking out into the bush. The bathrooms also have a wonderful outside shower out on the verandah. A curved wall made from bamboo poles gives you privacy, though the showers are totally open to the sky. For both the bath and the shower, you can make use of the hand made toiletries, which are brought up especially from South Africa. Then snuggle into your deep pile dressing gown, to relax before dinner. Click here to return to the main page on Lake Manyara Tree Lodge ^ Top of page |
