Les Lauriers Petit Hotel

 - Praslin Island, Seychelles

On Praslin's stunning Côte D'Or you will find this simple little guest-house, located conveniently in Anse Volbert Village. Les Lauriers Petit Hotel is set back from the road, a block back from the beach, in lush palm and hibiscus filled tropical gardens. Although not overlooking the sea, it is literally a 60 second walk from here down to the beautiful white sand beach and the sheltered waters of Anse Volbert which is great for swimming.

Les Lauriers has only six rooms: four are in a single level block and two are on the first floor level of a separate block set slightly further back from the road - both blocks have been painted banana-yellow. The rooms at Les Lauriers are constructed from stone and tile, and wooden doors lead from each onto a terrace or balcony where you can sit out and enjoy pleasant views of the gardens.

The walls of the bedrooms are painted white, and the floors made from screed decorated with colourful rugs, and the bathrooms are painted in terracotta. Whilst the rooms are not luxurious, they have everything that you need for a comfortable stay. There is a double bed decorated with cushions, a bedside table, bedside wall lights, wardrobe, dressing table, mirror and chairs. There is also a mini-fridge, electronic safe, hair-dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, clothes horse, fan and air-conditioning. The en-suite shower rooms are small and contain a walk-in shower, toilet and single sink which has a large mirror over. There is hot and cold running water and towels are provided.

Due to the location of Les Lauriers, car-hire is not essential as you can wander down to local restaurants and the beach quite easily. There are also a few very basic shops nearby. Edwin, one of the owners, runs fishing, snorkelling and island hopping trips which can be booked when you arrive. The guest-house also has its own ice-cream bar and popular open-sided restaurant (complete with a life-size boat!) which offers a Creole buffet and barbeque on some nights of the week. There is also a band that plays there on a weekly basis.

When we popped into Les Lauriers on our recent visit, we found this to be a very relaxed and welcoming place, and although not right on the beach it is just a stone's throw away. This well-located guest-house would be a good option for those on a budget.
