Deep into Kasanka National Park, Luwombwa Lodge has three larger, en-suite chalets beside the permanent Luwombwa River, which is ideal for gentle guided canoe trips. It's a delightful place to stay, but very simple by the standards of many more modern safari camps.

Kasanka is a superb place for undisturbed bird-watching, and there's nowhere better for this than the Luwombwa area. Expect to see ibises, herons, kingfishers and bee-eaters, as well as wattled cranes, saddle-billed storks and many others. The area's tropical 'specials' include the green sunbird, Boehm's flycatcher, Lady Ross's lourie and the shy finfoot.

Wasa is usually best visited in combination with its sister-camp in the park, Wasa Lodge, and possibly with a trip to the Shoebill Island, in the Bangweulu Wetlands.
