Deep into Kasanka National Park, Luwombwa Lodge has three larger, en-suite chalets beside the permanent Luwombwa River, which is ideal for gentle guided canoe trips. It's a delightful place to stay, but very simple by the standards of many more modern safari camps.
Kasanka is a superb place for undisturbed bird-watching, and there's nowhere better for this than the Luwombwa area. Expect to see ibises, herons, kingfishers and bee-eaters, as well as wattled cranes, saddle-billed storks and many others. The area's tropical 'specials' include the green sunbird, Boehm's flycatcher, Lady Ross's lourie and the shy finfoot.
Wasa is usually best visited in combination with its sister-camp in the park, Wasa Lodge, and possibly with a trip to the Shoebill Island, in the Bangweulu Wetlands. << Click on the menu (above left) for more about Wasa Lodge and Shoebill Island
Birdwatching: Kasanka is great for birdwatching as it's on the edge of the Central African rainforests, and has many species in common with those hard-to-reach areas

Wildlife: Kasanka's sheer range of different environments makes it a varied wildlife experience, best for experienced Africa hands. It's certainly Africa's best place for watching sitatunga antelope, and superb for bats at the right time!
