Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp
Everything about this place is good. The service is friendly and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble - even breakfast in bed at 4.45 in the morning before a Sunrise Safari was delicious! All the bedrooms were lovely, bright and clean with crisp white linen and towels. Pretty touches were everywhere. The views were spectacular. Our room's extensive windows gave us a panoramic view over the desert valley across to the mountains and the red sand dunes beyond. There is a small watering hole down on the valley floor and we sat for hours watching various animals come and go. We were taken up the Big Daddy sand dune very early in the morning by Angula - what a climb and what a descent! As we both perched, wobbling, on the dune's ridge at its very top wondering how we were ever going to get down it, Angula gave a huge whoop and plunged over the edge and, shouting at us to follow, sand sailed down making jokes and singing as he went! Taking a deep breath we followed him to the bottom and looking back couldnt believe how steep the descent had been - it was really exhillarating! The only quibble was that as the meals were taken on a long table together with all the other guests (which worked very well) the evening meal was served very late to accomodate everyone who was returning from the Sunset Ride - if you had been up at 4.45 that morning for the dune climb it was a bit late to eat and we were almost asleep by the time we sat down to eat...... A lovely place and we would have loved to have stayed another day.

It is a grat place !
Excelent bungalows, very nice staff but specialy our guide Mr. Angulla and camp manager. Very good well placed and recomendable location. One minus : the distance between some of the guest bungalows and the central "house". Our distance was 400 meters up and down.

Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp review
Wow, what a place. Met with cold wet facetowels and welcoming drinks in such a setting. The view over the waterhole and the desert from the huge windows in our room was stunning and at night watching the full moon from our bed was some experience. The staff were so friendly and quickly supplied me with vegetarian lunch. Joining in with the dancing was great fun too. Our guide was so knowledgable which suited this bird lover and he explained the geology of the area (which was obviously his first love) in a way that added to our whole experience.

Wonderful view and location
The food needs improvement and was not up to the standard of the camp. Lunches were not always filling. A very friendly camp where it was easy to meet and mix with other guests. The activities were 'full on' and there was very little spare time. It would have been helpful to know that we could opt in or out of some of them.

Down in the dunes
Fantastic location and amazing views Friendly servcie, greeted by 4 members of staff and cold flannels which were very welcome after a long drive Food was OK but felt it could have been better. Afternoon tea was disappointing, breakfast average Shower room was short on space and looked a bit tired Space around the plunge pool is tiny - if the platform was just a little wider you could sit by it - really needs a little refurb. Room is begging for a private verandah to sit out on and take in the amazing view Trip to the dunes was very good with a lovely luch - very civilised
Expert Africa comments
Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp have recently informed Expert Africa that a refurbishment has been scheduled for early 2008. This will include extending the room decks to allow more space around the pool and for an area to relax and enjoy the vistas.

Dramatic Dunes at Sossuvlei Wilderness Camp
Beautifully located high on a hill with far-reaching views and large, comfortable chalets well spaced out for privacy. Spacious, well-equipped en-suite. Staff was friendly and food was good, with the dinner menu recited in 3 different African languages. The early morning drive to the dunes was spectacular, the colours changing with the changing light ,and fine sand blowing like smoke from the peaks. We saw quite a bit of wildlife on the way - many Ostrich, Oryx, herds of Springbok and birds such as Shrike and Falcon. Etched in my memory is the sight of a lone Springbok high on a ridge, perfectly silhoutted against a bright blue sky. We had an extremely good guide in Marco, who is not only knowledgeable and conscientious but very kind. We are an elderly couple and Marco took particular care to ensure we did not miss out on anything that was within our capabilities. This is a very nice young man indeed, and an excellent guide.

Wonderful walking on Big Daddy dune
The location was quite overwhelming to be in the middle of the desert with such a panoramic view was amazing. The staff were very friendly and laughed a lot they were particularly attentive to our children who loved spending time with them. The showers were wonderful
