Mushara Lodge

 - Etosha National Park, Namibia
Read 27 traveller reviews of Mushara Lodge

Just 8km from the eastern gate of Etosha National Park, the substantial Mushara Lodge is designed for travellers who want to visit Etosha, whilst saying in a more comfortable place than the restcamps within the park. It has comfortable rooms and attentive service, and though it perhaps appeals most to self-driving travellers, it also offers guided game-viewing excursions. On the same reserve are its sister lodges: the comfortable Mushara Bush Camp, the private Mushara Villa and the luxurious Mushara Outpost.

Recently refurbished, Mushara Lodge has a range of accommodation, all decorated in the same warm beige and cream colour scheme. The 10 thatched chalets have cool stone floors and an abundance of white linen, including a mosquito net draped over the double bed, giving them a cool and bright feel. All are equipped with air conditioning, a minibar/fridge, a safe, tea/coffee-making facilities, a direct-dial telephone, a wardrobe and luggage rack, and a hairdryer. All are en suite, although seven have just a shower, while the other three also have a bath. Three further rooms – two singles and a triple – are similarly equipped, but these have a bath as well as shower.

On the other side of the property, a self-catering house with a small climbing frame in the garden is ideal for families. It has two en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen, TV, DVD player, lounge, dining room, and continues the style and colour scheme of the rest of the lodge.

Beyond the pretty fountain at the entrance to Mushara Lodge's large main area is a small curio shop in the reception area, which leads on to a lounge and bar with a high thatched roof. The fireplace in the lounge area, the lanterns hanging from the ceiling and the comfy sofas add to the warm and cosy feel of the lodge. In one corner is a small library with internet access, either using WiFi (free) or the lodge's computer (N$1.50 per minute). Meals are served in the adjoining restaurant, or in fine weather on the terrace, with fine wines and candlelit dinners available on request. On the lawn outside, sunloungers encircle a twinkling blue swimming pool.

Activities on offer at Mushara Lodge focus on guided game drives into Etosha, or you can easily drive yourself into the park as the lodge is just a few kilometers from the entrance gate.

Our view
Mushara Lodge is a convenient base for those on a self-drive trip who wish to explore the eastern side of Etosha. It is a comfortable and welcoming lodge which would appeal to families and those who like a little more comfort without being too flashy, and don't mind being slightly detached from the bush surroundings.
