About half-way between the Ngorogoro Crater rim and Ndutu, Olduvai Camp stands at the base of a kopje on the southern edge of the Serengeti.
A sister-camp to Mawe Ninga in Tarangire, it's run by Maasai and has 16 simple walk-in tents, built on concrete bases with thatched roofs. Each has twin beds, an en-suite chemical toilet and a canvas shower (water supplied on request).
The camp is quite rudimentary, including its food, but it is a good base from which to explore the nearby Olduvai Gorge and to experience Maasai culture.
Olduvai Camp is handy from December to March if the southern Serengeti is full, but is rather barren and devoid of game for the rest of the year.
