Superior Room

Roggeland Country House, Winelands, The Cape

Each bedroom at Roggeland Country House has its own character and charm. All are decorated with antiques and have reed ('riempie') or yellowwood ceilings, as well as deep windows with green-painted shutters which help to keep the room cool in the hot summers. All have double- or twin-beds, and the en-suite bathrooms are simple and unfussy.

During our most recent stay at Roggeland Country House, the superior room we had was large and spacious. The twin bed was covered with a pale cream, red and blue patterned bedspread, with matching cushions and padded headboard behind. At the foot of the bed was a lovely old yellowwood chest. On either side of the bed were two bedside tables, each with a reading lamp and water jug with filtered water and drinking glasses.

Against one wall was an old-fashioned dressing table on which stood a vase of fresh flowers; on the other wall was a lovely old antique wardrobe with a mirror on the outside. In one corner were two comfortable easy chairs.

Like many of the rooms at Roggeland Country House, this room had high ceilings, and plenty of space. It felt very unfussy and comfortable, with a solid quality and fairly traditional; you will not find TVs or mini-bars in any of the rooms.

This room had double doors leading out onto the lawns. Outside each room were a couple of sun-loungers for relaxing and enjoying the wonderful views.

The en suite bathroom was clean and unfussy with simple white tiles on the walls and cream tiled floors. There was a bath and separate shower cubicle as well as a single wash-basin and a toilet. A wooden towel stand stood under the window with fluffy white towels.

Roggeland Country House always provides hand-made soaps in their bathrooms.
