Thatched roomSand Rivers Camp, Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania Sand Rivers has just eight large thatched bungalows, four of these are adjoined as two pairs by a walkway, whilst the other four are totally detached. All are open-fronted bandas with views of the riverine forest and river beyond. It's a lovely touch, encouraging a fresh breeze and allowing birds to fly in and out of the room. The rooms have a rustic feel to them, with wood and stone floors, white washed walls and a thatched roof, though the large comfortable beds and white sofa for lounging add an air of luxury. All have mosquito nets, which are necessary in this part of the Selous, as well as a free standing fan and UK-style plug sockets for re-charging batteries. The rooms all have spacious en-suite bathrooms, which are open-plan with a proper flush toilet and hot shower. An enormous mirror hangs above the white ceramic sink and when we were last there Sand Rivers provided complementary toiletries.
