Sand Rivers fly-camping

 - Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Read 1 traveller review of Sand Rivers fly-camping

If you're staying at Sand Rivers Camp then it's easy for us to pre-arrange for you to have a night or two fly-camping from there. For 2007, this commands a supplement of about £70 per person sharing per night, in addition to the cost of your room at Sand Rivers.

When fly-camping you'll set off with your guide and a vehicle in the afternoon, usually mixing driving with walking. Around dusk you'll arrive at your fly-camp, usually in a dry, sandy riverbed. It will be set up in advance by the camp's team, with a fire, hot water for showers and cold drinks at the ready! Dinner is cooked on the fire – but is still very high quality.

Later you'll retire to your comfortable bedroll under a cube of mosquito gauze, and your armed guide will be sleeping close by. The team also bring a dome tent, in case anyone feels nervous.

If you like the sound of these fly-camping trips, but want a more concentrated experience – a pure walking safari – then consider their walking mobile trips – during which you'll leave camp to camp and sleep out with your guide for a four-night/five-day walk through the Selous.

If you're still unsure exactly what fly-camping is all about, then visit the main page for Selous Game Reserve where you will find more details. Or just call and ask us!
