Standard tent

Sausage Tree Camp, Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Sausage Tree Camp's seven tents are spread out along the banks of the Zambezi River, under the shade of mahogany and sausage trees. They have been evenly spaced, to provide as much privacy as possible. Five of these are standard tents, and the other two are honeymoon suites - although all are very similar in moist respects. An 8th tent is planned for 2008.

The spacious tents are open in the front, to maximize their river views, with two chairs on the veranda. The tent's canvas sides which can be dropped at night, making them quite cozy. Each has yellow oxide 'screeded' floors, beautiful brown teak furniture comprising of a dressing table, chest of drawers, hanging cupboard, writing desk and four posted beds (with new mattresses and crisp white linen; arguably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in) with mosquito nets. The tents also have free standing fans - greatly appreciated in the hot summer months.

Leading out from each bedroom is a private, enclosed open-air en-suite bathroom. The bathroom floors are also screeded (so you don't have to worry about getting sandy feet after your shower) and the basin and toilet are cleverly 'molded' into walls and shelves. (It looks much better than it sounds!)

There's even an innovative loo handle which is a piece of bamboo hanging from the wall. And if you enjoy your showers, then you'll love the pressure of Sausage Tree's hot & cold showers - even if the shower head looks like it's suspended from a set of gallows. Beside the shower are complementary shampoo, soaps and body lotion. And watch out for the tree frogs at night, which look like pretty little soaps or ornaments.
