The Imperial Suites at Sultan Palace are simply vast; they are certainly amongst the most spectacular rooms that we know of in Zanzibar – the kind of rooms that make you want to dance around after the room attendant has shown you around for the first time!

Each suite has a large reception area with a Zanzibari sofa bed. Beyond that, the main part of the bedroom is huge, and curves around – with two double beds, each covered in white cotton sheets and decorated with matching colourful throws. When you first get there, you'll often find bougainvillea flowers scattered over the beds.

The rest of the furnishings follow a high-quality Zanzibari style, with a lovely table and chairs decorated with hand-painted tiles – and this results in a beautiful and atmospheric room.

Behind this is a 'walk-in wardrobe' – which is larger than many individual rooms on Zanzibar – and a bathroom which is almost the same again in size, and incorporates a large double-shower with seats – a little like a Turkish bath.

Two sets of large French doors allow the sunlight to flood in to the bedroom, and lead onto a private wooden terrace with loungers which overlooks the ocean. Having breakfast served here is a great way to start the day.

The bathrooms are enormous and stylishly decorated – you will find white tile with wooden detail on the floors, his and hers sinks, and toiletries sitting in little baskets by the sink.

There is a huge his and hers double shower, then for some pure indulgence climb into your soft fluffy white bathrobes.
