On the edge of the Gursi Swamp, in the far south-west of Tarangire National Park, Swala Camp sits in an area of open grassland, under an elegant grove of tall acacia tortillis trees. This is a smart, permanent tented camp with high-quality accommodation and food, and good resident game – impala, elephant and waterbuck - attached to its artificial waterhole. Excellent birdlife can be seen here, and mongooses and monkeys also play around the camp.
There are nine lovely tents, each with an en-suite toilet and powerful shower to the rear and a polished wooden deck to the front. The lounge, dining and camp-fire area is in the middle of the camp, with great views of the waterhole. Meals here can be communal or individual and are invariably excellent; Swala will happily prepare delicious picnic lunches for whole-day safaris exploring far from camp. This remote camp is best visited with your own driver/guide.
