Tarangire Treetops

 - Tarangire National Park, Tanzania
Read 1 traveller review of Tarangire Treetops

One hour's drive north-east of Tarangire National Park's eastern boundary, Tarangire Treetops is located on Masaai land in the Lolkisale Concession Area. Treetops is the sister lodge to Migration Camp, The Manor and Arusha Coffee Lodge and offers the same high standard of service with the same level of style and luxury.

The reception is set atop a broad wooden deck and wraps around a vast baobab tree. From here the deck continues on to the open sided lounge, sunken fire pit and restaurant area, all set under cool thatch. Reclaimed dhow wood, neutral tones and beautiful African art create a simple and natural, yet very stylish feel.

A few wooden stairs lead down to a lower level deck, where there is a pool and a few sun-loungers facing out over the surrounding bush and a waterhole: a hugely popular spot for elephants in the dry season. Towards the back of the lodge there is an outside dining area, designed in the style of a traditional Maasai manyatta – evening barbeques are frequently held out here under the stars.

Each of the 20 Suites or treehouses is perched in a stand of impressive baobabs. These are raised on extraordinarily high stilts, literally in the treetops. From this elevated position, the gauze-fronted rooms and fabulous wrap-around decks afford incredible views across the surrounding bush. Inside, polished floors, crisp linen with forest green throws, simple furniture and serious twin showers are all high quality. All rooms are the same in style, featuring the same recycled aluminum and glass, and beautiful reclaimed dhow wood. They also have a hairdryer, fan and mosquito nets.

Being just outside the national park, Tarangire Treetops can organize night drives and walking safaris in addition to the usual daytime safari drives. However these activities are an additional cost that is paid to the camp. Each one is $55 per person and the money goes towards conservation. To guarantee that you are able to do these additional activities it is best that we arrange them in advance – please let us know if you would like us to do this.

Tarangire Treetops has a lovely setting, good service by friendly staff and high quality fittings. This is probably one of the most luxurious accommodation options for Tarangire National Park.

Usual board basis: Full Board
Food quality: When we were last at Tarangire Treetops in August 2009, we did not have a chance to try the food. However, having eaten at its sister lodges we expect the food here to be very high quality. The manager explained what we could expect for each meal.

Breakfast is a buffet of fruit, cereals, yoghurt and bread with fresh fruit juice tea and coffee. Then you can also order a full cooked breakfast from the waiter.

For lunch you may choose to take a boxed breakfast with you which would include tasty items like sandwiches, barbecued chicken, samosas and a salad with some fruit. Or you can return to the lodge for a light three course lunch.

Dinner is then a set meal of three courses. Tarangire Treetops usually offer a soup for the starter, three choices for a main including a meat and a vegetarian option, and then two choices for a desert finished off with a cheese board.
