The Constantia

 - Cape Town, South Africa
Read 1 traveller review of The Constantia

The Constantia is a country-style five-star boutique hotel, set in the fertile Constantia Valley – the Cape's oldest wine region – and also close to Cape Town's city centre. This area boasts many excellent restaurants, and five world-class wine estates: Buitenverwachtig, Constantia Uitsig, Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and Steenburg.

The Constantia has eight elegant suites: three Superior doubles (40m²), one Classic suite (54m²), two Pool suites (70m²), one Deluxe suite (95m²), and one Premier suite (95m²).They vary in size, but all come with private patios, as well as with separate en-suite bathrooms, complete with a shower, bath, toilet, heated towel rails, hair dryer, shaving point, velour robes and slippers.

Other standard room features include fresh flowers, under floor heating, air-conditioning, bedside alarm clocks, satellite TVs, wireless internet connections, in-room telephones, private safes and cotton linen. Mini-bars, tea/coffee and snacks are complimentary.

The Constantia's main facilities include a large, solar-heated swimming pool, set in manicured gardens, with a surrounding tanning deck and mountain views. Beside this, there's a lounge, a sun patio, as well as a dining area, where breakfast is served in the morning. Self-drivers can make use of the hotel's secure parking area.

Whilst staying at the Constantia, activities abound; from wine tastings to walking trails – everything should be possible! To start with, the hotel has an in-house tourist guide, who will gladly help to arrange transfers and tours to the area's highlights for you. Picnic baskets and pampering spa treatments can also be arranged.

Constantia Valley's main attractions are the five first-class wine estates. These produce award-winning wines, and have excellent South African restaurant, serving a variety of traditional South African dishes, Mediterranean cuisine, and exotic Continental menus – a real treat to all gourmets and oenophiles!

Other highlights include shopping at the chic Constantia Mall, golf at one of the areas three championship golf courses, or tours to the Cape's attractions, including those in Cape Town. To give you an idea: Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront are just 20 minutes from the Constantia, to Stellenbosch and the Cape Winelands it's a 40 minutes' drive, and Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden is a mere 10 minutes away.

In conclusion… For those seeking a luxurious place close to Cape Town's centre and its attractions, but outside the city's hustle and bustle, the Constantia seems to be ideal. It promises comfortable accommodation in lush, mountainous surroundings, with a good choice of fine restaurants and excellent South African wine estates nearby.
