The brand new Toka Leya camp is due to open on 1st May 2008; as of mid-April 2007, we're delighted to announce that it's running to schedule!
Toka Leya Lodge is named after the local Toka Leya people, who inhabited this area near Livinstone for centuries even before David Livingstone arrived here. The lodge has an excellent location beside the Zambezi River, somewhat upriver from the Falls themselves, and right beside the water.
Details of the lodge are uncertain at present, but it has been built – and will be run by – Wilderness Safaris. Their first-class rate track record of delivering what they promise in terms of lodges is clearly running to form so far. Wilderness are also responsible for the marketing and running The River Club – and Toka Leya Lodge is likely to have a similar standard to that – complete with a small 'spa'.
Early indications are that Toka Leya is likely to have about 28 beds - comprising of 10 twin rooms, two family rooms (each with two en-suite rooms, and an adjoining little lounge, which should prove good for families or parties of 3-4 adults travelling together). There's likely to be reduced rate for children aged 8-12 years old when sharing in one of the family rooms.
Daily rates for Toka Leya Lodge plan to include all meals per day, local drinks, laundry, and two activities a day (which will include river cruise on our boats, game drive into Mosi oa Tunya National Park, and tours to the Falls, the Livingstone Museum and the town's curio shops.
We're delighted to have a few of the first rough pictures of the lodge, taken during construction in mid-April – these are on the slide-show, above right.
