Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

 - Damaraland, Namibia
Read 6 traveller reviews of Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

Situated a short drive from the UNESCO World Heritage rock engraving site, Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is quite a substantial lodge. Working in partnership with the local Uibasen Conservancy, a portion of what each guest pays goes towards local community ventures. This ensures that the local community benefits from tourism to the area and that they have an awareness of what their surrounding environment is worth to them.

There is 55 standard rooms built in blocks of four or eight under a thatch roof, and one VIP suite. Tile floors in each of these simple, functional rooms help keep the interior cool whilst African print linen on the beds and artwork on the walls help provide a bit of atmosphere. All the rooms are en-suite and have a fan and a wardrobe. Four of the rooms are fitted with inter-leading doors making them suitable for families.

The main complex at Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is a large two storey, open-plan thatched structure built onto a hillside. The upper level has a large dining room dining room and a bar. The lower level houses the reception, a curio shop and toilets. In front of the building lies a kidney shaped swimming pool below surrounded by a small lawn area.

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge offers guided activities to the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, the Organ Pipes rock formation and Burnt Mountain – all of which are also easily accessible to independent drivers. Guided walks and 4WD nature drives in search of the desert adapted elephants and other wildlife can also be arranged. Mountain bikes are available for hire for more energetic guests to follow suggested routes in the vicinity of the lodge.

In conclusion… Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is a fairly standard 3* large lodge with functional rooms and facilities. Its lack of individuality is apparent in the price as this is the most economic accommodation option in the Twyfelfontein area.
