Vingerklip Lodge sits on a hilltop approximately 1km from the striking Vingerklip ('finger of stone' or 'rock finger') from where it derives its name. At 35 metres high, the Vingerklip is one of the most impressive sedimentary rock formations in Namibia.
None of the Expert Africa team have visited Vingerklip Lodge yet, but here is what we know about it:
Guests can enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding area known as the Ugab terraces – a series of sandstone mountains, plateau and valleys – from the vantage point of the lodge. Built of wood, stone and thatch, Vingerklip Lodge has 24 thatched bungalows spread out in pairs along the adjacent hillside. Each of the rooms has an en suite bathroom, twin or double beds, a private terrace, a fan, mosquito nets and a safe to lock valuables. Five of the bungalows are designed for family groups with loft accommodation for two children. In addition, there are two luxury units with a small kitchen.
Recently added and set on top of the natural terraces is a new luxury bungalow, 'Heaven's Gate'. It is an exclusive and secluded unit which is only accessible via a short mountain walk, followed by a 25m climb up a metal staircase. Not for the faint hearted!
The main building of Vingerklip lodge houses a reception area, a restaurant, bar, small curio shop, lounge and dining room with an open fireplace. There is also a swimming pool with sun loungers, a jacuzzi and a deck from where visitors can enjoy the impressive 360 degree views.
Vingerklip Lodge offers a number of activities. A short walk from the lodge takes you to the base of the Vingerklip itself. Nature drives, guided walks, sundowner trips and visits to a Himba village in the area can also be arranged on request. Despite its name, Vingerklip Lodge is more hotel then lodge but it is well-run with a relaxed atmosphere and breathtaking views.
