This sketch map shows the centre of Ruaha National Park, in Tanzania. Note the river networks (coloured blue), which centre on the Great Ruaha River – which has some water in it all of the year, albeit not all sections flow. Also note the swamps to the east, and the main Ruaha Escarpement to the north, which is a major feature of the area’s topography. A network of gravel tracks – for which ‘road’ seems too fancy a term, is coloured in red.
As you’ll see, the safari camps in Ruaha are quite spread out – and hence there’s a significant variation in the natural environment around each.
If you click through to our satellite map of the Ruaha - then this shows the escarpment and river particularly clearly – and hills and mountains which almost seem to surround the national park.
