Maps for AfricaAt Expert Africa, we believe in giving you as much information as possible about our trips and safaris. We use maps all the time, and we know that many of our travellers love them. So on this site you will find two totally different sets of maps of the same areas of Africa: Reference maps of AfricaWe commissioned these maps of Africa, to show the main cities, roads, national parks and safari areas. They're ideal for showing the relationship between the areas that we feature. They're not terribly detailed, and you can only click through to a few more detailed maps of selected areas. Google maps of AfricaCombining our own database of places in Africa, with the remarkable technical wizardry of Google maps, allows us to bring to you satellite images of Africa, complete with precise locations for the various safari camps and lodges. You can zoom in to precise camps, sometimes close enough to see the swimming pools! These maps contain large amounts of data, so you'll need patience or a fast internet connection to download them. We haven't yet got all of our lodges visible on these satellite maps; many of our lodges in Botswana and Zambia area already marked, and we're adding more all the time. Note that you can navigate through all of the map pages by using the menu on the top of the left column – which works in the same way as the menus on the rest of the site. How to use these satellite mapsPlease remember to be patient whilst the maps load. When loaded, you'll see blue ovals representing countries. Mouse-over these for the name of the country, and click them for a bubble with more information. To delve deeper, click on the country link at the top of the bubble – which will taken you to a more detailed map of that country which then represents its different areas with blue bubbles. Again, click on these for bubbles of information – and then click on the links in the bubbles to go deeper still. At any stage you can zoom into the maps using the slider control on the left side of the map – or move the area of the map by dragging and dropping. Remember though that to see the areas or lodges in a different country, you will need to click on that country's oval, or click on that country in the left-hand menu bar. Black and brown markers also show areas and points of interest – though generally these are from the guidebooks, and are not covered by Expert Africa's programme. ^ Top of page |
