Gorongosa Gerbil Fly-in: In full

On arrival in Johannesburg, connect onto another South African Airways flight to Beira which takes approximately 90-minutes. On arrival you will be met by a driver, who will take you for the three-hour drive to reach Gorongosa National Park. This is quite a lengthy road transfer but it is also an interesting one that passes through small towns and rural villages, giving you a real insight into local life. At the gate of the park you will be met by your guide and for the next four days, you will explore this fascinating park on foot or in a 4WD vehicle. Gorongosa National Park was heavily poached throughout the civil war of the eighties, however the game is recovering quickly by being actively repopulated. That said, the real draw here is the fantastic sense of wilderness you get – Explore Gorongosa is the only camp in the park! Old Africa hands or travellers looking for something off-beat will love this park and camp.

On your final morning in Gorongosa, drive back to Beira and connect onto a flight to the town of Pemba – the gateway to the Quirimbas Archipelago. Here you will catch your light aircraft transfer to Quirimba Island which takes approximately 20-minutes, and connect onto a boat to Quilálea Private Island. Spend your days here relaxing, or sampling the variety of activities such as the excellent diving, snorkelling, exploring the island and sampling spa treatments.
