Mahangu Safari Lodge: Our full report
Overlooking the Kavango River, Mahangu Safari Lodge is situated next to Mahango National Park and Bwabwata National Park. Hence the lodge is in a very good location for visiting these parks, as well as making it a convenient stop over for travellers heading through the Caprivi Strip, coming to/from Botswana (Okavango Delta) and heading on to Victoria Falls.
Mahangu Safari Lodge has got ten bungalows that have thatched roofs and a tiled floor. The bungalows are sparsely furnished and painted in a light green colour. The rooms are equipped with double and single beds that all have mosquito nets above them. There is an en-suite bathroom in each room, which contains a flushing toilet and hot shower. All bungalows are provided with an air conditioning as well as a fan hanging from the ceiling.
The lodge has got six big safari tents overlooking the Kavango River. The tents are simple and functional with an en-suite bathroom and furnished with twin beds.
The main area at Mahangu Safari Lodge is decorated with stuffed animal heads and pictures from successful fishing trips. The walls are painted with the same green color as the bungalows which can make it seem quite dark. There is a lounge area which offers comfortable seating and a well-stocked bar. Dinner can be eaten inside or outside and is set up with individual tables. The lodge has got a small curio shop where visitors can buy souvenirs from their trip.
Outside is a lush garden with a well-kept lawn, mature trees and a good sized swimming pool.
Activities at the lodge concentrate on game drives to Mahango National Park and the Bwabwata National Park. Further activities are boat trips on the Kavango River, guided fishing trips and bird watching.
Our view
Mahangu Safari Lodge is a basic lodge with a quirky interior. Don’t come here for the lodge itself but use it as a good base for trips and activities into the Mahango National Park and for boat trips on the Kavango River.Geographics
