An elegant disappointment!
This stay was the one big disappointment of our holiday. Our room, whilst adequate in size, looked somewhat tired, and frankly not very clean, and this was reflected in other parts of the property and grounds. The sunbeds by the pool rested on dirt/mud rather than grass etc, and the grounds looked more like an ex- farmyard rather than the gardens of a fairly large guesthouse.
The restaurant was crowded for the one sitting evening meal, and the food, whilst adequate was nowhere near the standard that we had come to love in Namibia.
Halfway through the evening meal a large electrical storm knocked out the mains electricity. Whilst the staff reacted promptly with candles and struck up the generator, it was announced that the latter was too noisy to operate all night and that it would be switched off in half an hour's time (9.00pm!). This lead to a very uncomfortable night as it was extremely hot and humid and one of the features that had attracted us to the place was the provision of air conditioning. The generator was not restarted until 7.00am. A long night!
Whilst we obviously do not criticise the staff for the electricity failure, we do think that accommodation of this size (and cost) should have the facility to cope with such an occurrence, which according to the relief manager was not a rare event, with outages lasting for many hours or days. As on this occasion there was no indication as to when power would be restored, we decided not to spoil our trip by risking the prospect of another miserable night and checked out and went on to spend our final night in Windhoek.
Two positive points. Once we had decided to check out a day early, the staff were very helpful in telephoning etc to assist us to arrange accommodation in Windhoek. The terrible road (26km of it) that you warn of to get to the property, is undergoing major reconstruction and should eventually be much better.
Expert Africa comments
Expert Africa forwarded these comments to the owner of The Elegant Farmstead (Jorn Dedig) who has thanked these travelers for their feedback.
At the time that our travelers visited, there was relief manager on duty but unfortunately he did not inform Jorn about any of the issues raised. Once Jorn heard about the problems, via our feedback system, he was most apologetic about the unfortunate experiences that these travellers had. He has assured us that he will not be making use of this particular relief manager's services in the future so the usual standards of cleanliness and efficiency will be returned to normal.
As a gesture of goodwill Jorn has offered these travellers a full refund for their two nights stay.
Ideal for last or first night
We stayed here 1 night coming from etosha and going to Windhoek airport the next morning
Nice pool, relaxing
Tranquil and Romantic
The only thing that I was not happy about Elegant Farmstead was that we were only there for one night.
The lodge is close enough to Windhoek, yet secluded enough to have a quiet and relaxing time. The main building of the lodge is elegantly decorated and welcoming. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. The wine cellar has a very good selection of wines. The food was excellent!
I wish we could have enjoyed another day or two at the Elegant Farmstead.
Elegant Farmstead review
This was a good first stop after our long flight as it was only a reasonably short journey being just before reaching Okahanja. The road to the Farmstead was pretty rough due to many reconstructions taking place at the moment on the 27.5 Km D2102.
Warm welcome from the manageress, very quiet here, only two other guests. Very nice garden area and pool. Not a lot of wild life seen. Our room was very comfortable and the evening meal was excellent .

This was our last night's stay in Namibia and was ideal.
The hospitality was excellent and the staff all very helpful. We didn't take part in any of the activities provided, but we did a couple of self guided walks, one of which had directions provided. Both walks were enjoyable and we saw quite a bit of game. It was a very restful place to stay and finish our trip. For us it was preferable than staying in Windhoek.
The food was excellent and tea and coffee is provided all day in the main reception area. The gardens are very pleasant. With a very large swimming pool.
Relaxed and homely
What a lovely spot - it was just a shame the road there was bad with several corrugations and stones.

Elegant Farmstead was great for a stay near enough to Windhoek to make a lunchtime flight without getting up at the crack of dawn. It's a really nice place in its own right too, however. It's a fairly lengthy drive up a bumpy gravel road from the B1, but worth it.
The rooms were well-furnished and set in lovely gardens - but the bathrooms need a bit of upgrading and the shower was rather weak. There's a lovely pool, home-made cakes mid-afternoon, and very good food and wine. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable way to end our holiday after all the travelling.
Elegant Farmstead, a tranquil oasis
An excellent stop off on our way north, just 1.5 hours from Windhoek. This was the ideal place to rest after a long overnight flight from the UK.
We found it really homely, very peaceful and tranquil it was just what we needed. The rooms were comfortable, the food and service was excellent and the farmstead was set in beautiful surroundings.Definitely a place to remember.
We enjoyed a lovely game drive here too, it was wonderful.
Could perhaps benefit from a "buggy" to carry luggage to rooms, there was no help offered on this front!

Very helpful indeed particularly as we left a necklace which they went to great lengths to ensure we got it back.
Could fully recommend although the 27.5k road is a bit rough. Enjoyable walk in the area in lovely surroundings.
Food very enjoyable.
