Relaxing

This was our last stop at the end of a three week trip and we used it to relax prior to the journey home. Different from the lodges we had stayed at in the sense that Erongo has tents set up under permanent thatched covers (same principle as a car port) with a rear entrance into a built bathroom with shower. It's all a matter of choice but 2 nights was enough for us in accommodation as simple as this though there are absolutely no complaints and it was very clean.

Service was friendly (though the lady who meets you and looks after luggage could do with a few more days at the charm school) and Brian the manager was always around to make sure you were happy. The food was OK and there was always a choice for main course at dinner. Activities are low key and we did nothing except a self-guided walk on the property.

Brian and Adele were running a tremendous lodge; great ambience - this was our favourite! Great attention to detail.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

We found Erongo Wilderness Lodge the perfect spot to wind down and relax before leaving Namibia. The tented chalets are quite unique and very comfortable, set amidst the scenic valley. We'll never forget seeing a shooting star over the mountains while sitting on the deck one evening.

We really enjoyed one of the included walks, and found the the guide not only to be very knowledgeable about the plants, animals and geology, but by adding a bit of humor now and then, greatly added to our enjoyment of the walk

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

A very good standard across the board, relaxed style and very welcoming.

The drive from Windhoek is not long or demanding, the activities are not too strenuous, so a good place to acclimatise at the start of the holiday.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

Excellent location, service, food and walks.

Staying there and talking to the guide about his life, family, etc. as well as the wildlife and scenery proved a great introduction to Namibia and we only wished that we could have had a second night there (it had not been possible to organize this at the planning stage).

Where?

We were relieved to discover that the directions you had given us were for the wrong place as the Wilderness Lodge was much less of a detour from the road back to Windhoek!

We were looking forward to doing some walking here and made a point of arriving early in the afternoon but were only staying one night and found that the 'real' walks all happened in the morning so were not available to us. We did do the sundowner walk (with Johnny - reassuring on the difficult bits and very informative) which we enjoyed but would have liked to go further and learn more.

The lodge was under interim management. Gregory was fine, helpful, friendly and welcoming but there was another character who was not very impressive and didn't seem to do anything very useful except tell tales about his laddish exploits.

Food good - very much in he mould of the Olive Grove where we'd spent our first night. Like others before us we'd have liked a second day if only for the walking.

Expert Africa comments

Expert Africa apologised for the issues these travellers had with the map for Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Although this was marked correctly on their main Namibia map, the supplementary, more detailed map was obviously quite confusing and so we will not be issuing this map any more.

Lovely place to slow down and relax; amazing scenery.

Pity they had a problem with the pool while we were there.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

Erongo liked very much.  Again no air cond. but cool at night.

I understand they are completely re-furbishing next year so will have more sitting out room as the dining room was hot.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

We enjoyed our stay here - you very much feel that you are away in the wilderness! Staff were very friendly and there was a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent - probably the best food of the whole holiday. The service was very efficient. The main lodge is a really lovely building.

We went on a guided evening walk, which was most enjoyable and the guide was very knowedgeable and good fun.

We were in the honeymoon suite! and we had a wonderful view from our camp.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

We were looking forward to arriving at Eronga Wilderness Lodge to have some luxury, only to find that there was no water! It was a local problem and the owner had been out for two days helping to repair.

However, it was a lovely place to relax and we thorough enjoyed our stay here, and even more so when we were given free drinks for the two days because of the water problem!

We would encourage a stop here for a couple of days, if only to catch one's breath after the previous long drives and early mornings at Sesriem.
