Solitude amongst the boulders.

We had a room at the end of one of the board walks so we had total privacy. Many of the rooms would have guests walking past their balconies. This was, undoubtebly, the least comfortable accommodation of our 17 day trip. We had stayed in a number of 'tents' beneath thatched roofs but never one so tatty and poorly furnished. The bathroom was a bit of solid structure, outside the tent so to gain access meant unzipping the tent and going out.

The weather rather reduced the potential to make the most of the visit as there are, obviously, plenty of opportunities for walking in the surrounding hills but take the brochure's advice - take a GPS. Advice :- Don't go here in the rainy season, it's not comfortable for walking.

The staff were very helpful and cheerful.

Greast stay at Erongo

We loved the surroundings. We had a very good guide, who had an amazing knowledge of plants and wild life generally.

The accommodation food and sevice were very good. There was a lot to see around our tent. Some amazing lizards. Also some wild cats, who kept us awake at night but were nevertheless, a great delight.

We loved watching the rock dassies trying to steal food put out for the lovebirds outside the dining room area.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

Ideal as a last stop. The tents are quite small and we found the bathroom very dark and open to wildlife! It is nice to have tea and coffee in the tent. We enjoyed the sun-downer (and the kudu sausage) and the very early morning walk. The guides were once again very keen and helpful.

The pool and the area around it are ideal to relax in before tackling the journey home. A visit to Omaruru is an interesting experience.

It would be useful to have some sort of alarm system like in Kulala and Doro Nawas as the chalets are spread out. Emergencies do happen.

Expert Africa comments

Roger, the manager of Erongo, came back to us about this feedback, commenting that he agrees that the lighting in the bathrooms is a little dark, as there is only one energy-saving bulb in the bathroom. As a result he intends to have a look at putting an extra light in the bathroom, possibly above the mirror, and hopes to incorporate this into their annual maintenance planned for January.

With regards emergencies, Roger tells us that one of their security guards is detailed to patrol around the tents at night – hence if any guest calls out, then the guard should hear them, and radio the managers for assistance. He put this system in some time ago and, to date, he tells us that it has worked well.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

Wonderful location, very well equipped tents. Brian and Adele were excellent hosts - lovely atmosphere, good choice of varied walks and excursions with guides. Good more adventurous food. A late breakfast after your early walk, served as brunch - afternoon tea also included.

Small waterhole visible from restaurant - lots of birds and small animals on site. Small but delightful pool.

wonderful walking amongst the rocks

We thoroughly enjoyed this final location on our trip. The isolation and scenery were stunning. The outside area for the bathroom set in rocks and the views from the restaurant were wonderful.

The self guided trails were exciting and easy to follow and the guided walk was very informative and enjoyable. the dip in the pool was very welcome and the sundowner trek a pleasant experience. T

he staff were all very professional and friendly. Being at this lodge reinforced our feeling of freedom and wilderness offered by the country and made us feel very reluctant to leave and return to the hubub of Europe.
